Su ciency in quantum statistical inference

چکیده

This paper attempts to develop a theory of su ciency in the setting of non-commutative algebras parallel to the ideas in classical mathematical statistics. Su ciency of a coarse-graining means that all information is extracted about the mutual relation of a given family of states. In the paper su cient coarse-grainings are characterized in several equivalent ways and the non-commutative analogue of the factorization theorem is obtained. As an application we discuss exponential families. Our factorization theorem also implies two further important results, previously known only in nite Hilbert space dimension, but proved here in generality: the Koashi-Imoto theorem on maps leaving a family of states invariant, and the characterization of the general form of states in the equality case of strong subadditivity.

Su ciency in quantum statistical inference. A survey with examples

This paper attempts to give an overview about su ciency in the setting of quantum statistics. The basic concepts are treated paralelly to the the measure theoretic case. It turns out that several classical examples and results have a non-commutative analogue. Some of the results are presented without proof (but with exact references) and the presentation is intended to be self-contained. The ma...

Of Nonlinear Experiments

Adaptive designs that optimize the Fisher information associated with a nonlinear experiment are considered. Asymptotic properties of the maximum likelihood estimate and related statistical inference based on dependent data generated by sequentially designed adaptive nonlinear experiments are explored. Conditions on the experimental designs that ensure rst order e ciency of the maximum likeliho...

Pseudo-Likelihood Inference Underestimates Model Uncertainty: Evidence from Bayesian Nearest Neighbours

When using the K-nearest neighbours (KNN) method, one often ignores the uncertainty in the choice of K. To account for such uncertainty, Bayesian KNN (BKNN) has been proposed and studied (Holmes and Adams 2002 Cucala et al. 2009). We present some evidence to show that the pseudo-likelihood approach for BKNN, even after being corrected by Cucala et al. (2009), still significantly underest...

Markov triplets on CCR-algebras

The paper contains a detailed computation about the algebra of canonical commutation relation, the representation of the Weyl unitaries, the quasi-free states and their von Neumann entropy. The Markov triplet is de ned by constant entropy increase. The Markov property of a quasi-free state is described by the representing block matrix. The proof is based on results on the statistical su ciency ...
